Canada Strikes Back: Announces $155 Billion in Counter-Tariffs Against U.S.

News

Canada will levy a $25 billion tariff on American goods. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the move in a national address, stating that Canada will impose a $30 billion tariff on additional U.S. products. Canada has retaliated against U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs by imposing counter-tariffs worth of goods, effective Tuesday, followed by additional tariffs on $125 billion worth of American products in 21 days. This phased approach aims to give Canadian businesses time to adjust their supply chains.

Trudeau emphasized that the tariffs will target everyday items such as American beer, wine, bourbon, fruits, fruit juices, vegetables, perfume, clothing, and shoes. The Prime Minister also revealed that he has repeatedly attempted to engage with President Trump since his inauguration but has yet to secure a conversation. Canada’s strong response underscores its commitment to defending its economic interests amid escalating trade tensions.
