In a significant step toward exploring the depths of the Earth, China has officially launched its “Super 10,000-Meter Scientific Drilling Technology and Equipment Project,” marking a critical deployment under the national initiative of “advancing into the deep earth.”
The project represents a forward-looking strategy aimed at addressing frontier scientific challenges related to the Earth’s deep interior while safeguarding the nation’s energy resource security. As one of the most direct and vital methods for understanding the mysteries of the Earth’s interior, continental scientific drilling plays a pivotal role in these ambitious explorations.
Led by the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, the project seeks to elevate China’s technological capabilities in super-deep drilling to an internationally leading level. The initiative is positioned to create groundbreaking advancements in drilling technologies, aiming to develop a state-of-the-art, nationally significant system, following in the footsteps of the renowned “Dream” ocean drilling ship.
During the project’s launch meeting, participants were urged to harness the advantages of China’s robust national research system.
